Biography

Modesty Dept. is the brainchild of Jonas Persson, born 1977 in Skellefteċ, Sweden. Starting writing electronic-based music at an early age, he during the 1990's explored a wide variety of styles from Trip-Hop and Ambient to Reggae and Eurotechno.

In 2001 he teamed up with his friend Adil Fadi to create Funkservice International, a music project blending Lounge, Jazz and World Music. Prior to the release of the album "A Post Modern Life" in february 2004, Jonas created Modesty Dept. in search of new soundscapes.

As versatile as Jonas himself, is his multifaceted music. The self-produced debut album "Shades of Solitude" consists of dusty drum machines, analogue synthesizers, soothing strings, lo-fi vocoders and beautiful melodies inspired by both old time heroes like Burt Bacharach and modern electronica. It melds into undefinable pieces of cinematic music that's both beautiful, ugly, happy and melancholic at the same time.
